As the situation in the field of public service translation and interpreting, whether in practice, education, research or professionalisation in this area, varies from one European country to another, the PSIT and LLD Working Group serves primarily to map the situation across Europe and to exchange experiences and examples of good practice. The aim of this issue of the international scientific journal Fitispos is to present research results on the practical implementation of public service translation and interpreting, project and training activities and other inspiring initiatives in the various countries and regions of Europe represented in PSIT and LLD Working Group. The entire issue will thus offer an opportunity to compare the situation in countries with a longer tradition of migrant admission, practice and training in PSIT and LLD with the reality in countries where only recent events have called for a rapid response in this area.

El siglo XXI ha arrancado como un siglo transformador con numerosos cambios a nivel social, económico, educativo, sanitario, etc., propiciados por eventos como los constantes conflictos en diferentes puntos del planeta (entre ellos, el conflicto afgano o la guerra en Ucrania), los desastres naturales provocados por el cambio climático, o crisis sanitarias como la Covid-19 (Valero-Garcés y Alcalde Peñalver, 2024:5). Estas situaciones a menudo han resultado en crisis humanitarias que se han traducido en movimientos poblacionales a gran escala (Valero-Garcés y Alcalde Peñalver, 2024:5).

Estos aspectos se plantean en el 8º Congreso Internacional sobre Traducción e Interpretación en los Servicios Públicos (TISP en Transición) celebrado en la Universidad de Alcalá en marzo de 2023. Este número recoge una selección de propuestas relacionadas con esta temática a raíz de la participación en el congreso.

Las personas interesadas en enviar un artículo para el número temático de la revista (7500 palabras, aprox. 15 páginas) deberán seguir las normas de estilo de la misma (https://fitisposij.web.uah.es/OJS/index.php/fitispos) y enviarla siguiendo el procedimiento establecido.

The 21st century has started as a transforming century with numerous changes at the social, economic, educational, health, etc. levels, brought about by events such as the constant conflicts in different parts of the planet (among them, the Afghan conflict or the war in Ukraine), natural disasters caused by climate change, or health crises such as Covid-19 (Valero-Garcés and Alcalde Peñalver, 2024:5). These situations have often resulted in humanitarian crises that have resulted into large-scale population movements (Valero-Garcés and Alcalde Peñalver, 2024:5). The increase of population movements poses a challenge in itself, insofar as it has led to the configuration of new multicultural societies across the globe (Valero-Garcés and Lázaro Gutiérrez, 2016:8).

These issues have been raised at the 8^th International Conference on Translation and Interpreting in Public Services (TISP in Transition) held at the University of Alcalá in March 2023. This thematic issue collects a selection of articles related to this topic as a result of the participation in said Conference.

Authors interested in submitting an article for this thematic issue of the journal (7500 words, approx. 15 pages) should follow FITISPos-International Journal’s style guidelines (https://fitisposij.web.uah.es/OJS/index.php/fitispos) and send it following the established procedure.

PSIT in a changing world

Guest editor: María Fernández de Casadevante Mayordomo (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos)

Present-day society is living in a time of great changes and challenges; we are witnessing events that are affecting different dimensions in our lives: the impact of Covid-19, constant advances in the field of technology and communications, war conflicts of an international nature but with global impact, and economic and humanitarian crises that require its management and a process of global mediation to help overcome the challenges and strengthen this situation of fragility that the world is going through. In this context, PSIT plays a central role; through their work, T&I professionals contribute to the implementation of initiatives and the search for solutions that help to achieve a certain balance and stability in our world. This leads us to the publication of a special issue, with the aim of providing a space for reflection, presentation of projects and experiences on PSIT within the framework of a world of changes and challenges.

T&I professionals, researchers, educational authorities, and institutions, both public and private, language service providers or anyone whose work seeks to promote a more sustainable world are invited to participate. For this issue we welcome proposals that approach these questions from any relevant field and that focus on, but are not limited to, the following points:

- Teaching innovation

- Educational challenges

- New technologies

- Advances in PSIT

- Migrations

- Vulnerable groups

- Mediation in armed conflicts and humanitarian crises

- T&I in pandemics

Submission of proposals

Proposals must be submitted by 10 September 2022 to maria.fernandezdecasadevante@urjc.es Submissions should be in the form of abstracts of 250-350 words (excluding bibliography) and in MS Word format.

Language

Proposals are welcome in English and Spanish

Length of article: 5000-8000 words

Notification of acceptance: 30 September 2022

Paper submission: 15 December 2022

En el año 2016 se cumplen 10 años desde la creación de la Red COMUNIC@ (Observatorio Nacional sobre la Traducción e Interpretación en los Servicios Públicos). En este punto de inflexión, reflexionamos sobre los cambios que se han producido durante la última década en torno a la provisión de servicios lingüísticos en los servicios públicos. Ha sido una década intensa en la que hemos sido testigos de importantes avances pero también nos hemos enfrentado a numerosos retos que lejos de desanimarnos han sido un acicate para seguir luchando por la profesionalización de la TISP en los servicios públicos. The year 2016 will be the 10th Anniversary of the creation of the Red COMUNIC@ (National Observatory on Public Service Translation & Interpretation). At this point of inflexion, we would like to assess the changes that have taken place during the last decade in the field of provision of linguistic services in the public services. While it is true that we have witnessed some of the most important changes during this intense decade, we have also faced many challenges which rather than dishearten us have actually spurred us on, to continue striving for professionalization of Public Service Translation & Interpretation (PSTI).
