Gradual steps towards the professionalisation of public service interpreting in Slovenia

Abstract

This review article details who provides public service interpreting and translation (PSIT) in the Republic of Slovenia, the training profile of practising public-service interpreters, the language needs in Slovenia and the language profiles of trained interpreters. The article also describes the national vocational qualification for public service interpreters and the first Slovene code of ethics and standards of practice for public service interpreters – both of which mark the first steps towards the professionalisation of public service interpreting in the Republic of Slovenia.
